My time on the IKE

Last week I had the opportunity of a lifetime to spend three days and two nights on the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower CVN-69 aircraft carrier. It was an experience I will never forget. I met some great people from all over the country. I have a whole new respect for the military after this adventure.

AKUS at Gettysburg

In May, I had the pleasure of seeing Alison Krauss & Union Station featuring Jerry Douglas in Gettysburg, PA. It was one of Alison's first shows after her bluegrass hiatus. Here are some of those images. As a plug for their fine hospitality, I suggest visiting Adams County Winery. Sample their Rebel Red. It's a fan favorite at Gettysburg.

Working with Melissa Troutt

In the last five years in my journey as a digital photographer I have met some interesting and wonderful people. Some have been clients, some photographers and others have been models. One of the first people I photographed was Melissa Troutt back in 2005. I was new to the whole idea of digital photography and had little to no real working knowledge of Photoshop.

Over that time I have improved with trial and error on both my photography and with Photoshop. Melissa and I worked together this past week. We created some solid images. I fell in love with the camera all over again.

I simply can't wait for the beginning of spring. The unseasonable winter with our plethora of snow in Virginia should keep us drought proof, bringing out beautiful Cherry Blossoms to the Tidal Basin and Apple Blossoms to the Shenandoah Valley. The spring time is a wonderful time for photography.

I look forward to this.

Winter Weather Adjusts Plans

I was planning on attending several events this weekend. However, the weather has cancelled most of those events. With that said, I have some options. Attempt some editorial photography this weekend and/or edit some more photos for the portfolio.

I am creating the structure for the new site and hope to have it up very soon. Everyone be safe out there.

Snow....

Here are again. The area is filled with fresh snow and I am at work. AGAIN. ;) I am telling you this because I can laugh at the fact I have been wanting to photograph falling snow all winter but I have been out of position to do so.

I am looking forward to possibly getting some photographs of the snow on the ground tomorrow. This should be some validation that you can take lemons and turn them into lemonade. I have enjoyed seeing all the photos of everyone especially the children of all ages playing in the snow.

Today is here and we are not promised tomorrow. But with a photograph today's memories will last forever.

Since My Last Posting

A lot has been going on. In the last few weeks, I have moved up the career ladder, had my wisdom teeth removed, and found a renewed focus on business.

I was pleased to move up the career ladder. It has been a learning experience in the last almost five years in this portion of my career. This is my second promotion. It has offered a bit of validation from the office. I makes me feel good.

After having my tonsils taken out eight years ago, last month I had my wisdom teeth removed. It was a real experience in the fact that I should have done this a long time ago. I am still dealing with some soreness but I am no where near the pain I was in from the dry sockets. Oh my, I would never wish that on my worst enemy.

Look for new and exciting products and services from Stewie Hues Media. The next year will be exciting. I look forward to working with you.

I Love Football

i wanted to remind everyone the NFL season starts tonight with the Steelers and Titans on NBC. Al Michaels and Cris Collinsworth will call the action from Heinz Field.

American football is the meat and potatoes sport of this country. With all the controversy of baseball, the individualism of basketball, with the intermittent interest in hockey and soccer football is what binds America. From Pop Warner football the Friday night high school games, we have a sport that brings people together.

There have been many that have come and gone from the sport. I will never forget one of the greatest days of my life. September 5, 1983 at Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium, I saw my first NFL Game. I am still in disbelief of what I saw to this day. I had seen the upper deck move on TV. I had heard the screaming fans. But until I witnessed it, I could not quantify such a happening.

Tom Landry's Dallas Cowboys were back in town to play the Super Bowl champs. There was high anticipation. This game was the first reqular season game of Darrell Green's career. Howard Cosell was chastised and later departed ABC shortly after calling Washington Redskin Alvin Garrett a "little monkey" as he made a reception. I twas also the reunion of Danny White and Dexter Manley. Manley took White out of the previous matchup in the NFC Championship game with a concussion. white was replaced by Gary Hogeboom, who later was apart of the TV show Survivor. Oh yeah the 'Boys won 31-30. We sat in Section 318 Row 12 Seats 1 and 2. White threw a touchdown pass at our end zone seats to win the game. Rafael Septian's extra point gave Dallas the advantage.



As for college football, the Wolverines are off to a winning start. Coach Rich Rodriguez has some contraversy with team practices but that will soon pass. I wish all the Wolverines the best this year. Go Blue!!!

Some Things are Worth It

After expecting yesterday to be a bad day, I learned something. You just have to play the hand that you are dealt and everything will work out. There were about three schedule conflicts that were geographically scattered. But somehow I was able to overcome the distances and timing for a perfect day. Did I mention at one point there was ZERO visibility on the interstate for several miles?

Its all about meeting goals and taking on opportunity. Focusing on the big picture of things that have to be done. Also I want to let everyone know about Marc Davis from Silver Spring, MD. This young man is working his way up the motor sports ladder.

Not Looking Forward to the Third

They say things happen in threes. In the last week I have lost a member of my high school graduating class and a person who I truly admired. Both were to sudden cardiac arrest. I am still baffled by the loss of Brian, 35 married withthree beautiful daughters. Gone, boom, just like that.

Thank You Poole

Today I return to my most favorite race track in the NASCAR circuit. But there will be something missing. Talented author and journalist David Poole will not be in the mix. Poole passed away shortly after his Sirius radio show on Tuesday morning.

Poole was not always popular with everyone all the time. I considered him Mr. Independent in NASCAR much like Lou Dobbs on CNN. Often times he would speakout for those who didn't have a voice. One incident I can remember was the rain delay confusion at Fontana, California. For what is was worth he had the back of all the fans that stuck it out through was it four days of rain. I will miss his Monday morning recaps of his travel adventures. I recall tuning into Sirius and they were still replaying shows from the previous day. It was one of those mornings, Poole had to get up early since he was on the west coast for the 7am EST show. When he arrived at the track it was a comedy of errors. He finally was able to go live on the air within a few minutes of the beginning of the show.

I could go on and on about Poole but the fact is that he is gone. I will always remember that he took to respond to an email I sent to him thanking him for his opinions and comments on motorsports. His reply was true and genuine in Poole fashion. It was simply, "Thank You." To the Poole family who dealt with him traveling and allowing him to become part of our lives I say to them, "Thank You."

Ode to the Symphony

I was fortunate enough to attend the Roanoke Symphony. They had a performance entitled "Behind the Silence." It was a moving tribute to the composers of the Holocaust. It has been a long while since, I have attend such a performance. It was breathetaking.

I was rather entrigued by some of the pieces and mezmorized by others. But one thing for sure I was both educated and well entertained by the end of the evening. I challenge each of you to take in the arts at a venue near you. It could open up a new door of opportunity.
